The entire course Reinventing Boston: The Changing American City is an active learning experience.  Framed as a study of how American cities have changed, the class involves three neighborhood visits.  Three times during the semester, students are assigned a particular neighborhood which is related to the topic being covered in class.  Students visit neighborhoods on their own and carry out a mini-ethnography.  Examples of methods used include surveys, observations, interviews etc.  They then write a three page memo which forms the basis of section discussion.  Click "Resources" for the class syllabus.
