Talk (1st April @ 12pm): Assessment of Metamorphopsia in Age-related Macular Degeneration

March 26, 2014

At noon on Tuesday 1 April, Pete will be presenting a seminar titled, "Assessment of Metamorphopsia in Age-related Macular Degeneration". The talk will be at Schepens, and the synopsis is below:

Metamorphopsia (visual distortion) is a potentially important biomarker for degenerative retinal disease because it may be related to pathological changes in the retina. Accurate measurement of metamorphopsia is therefore a potentially useful assessment for detecting the presence, progression or remediation of eye disease. Existing methods for quantifying metamorphopsia, such as Amsler grids, suffer from poor sensitivity and repeatability problems. We estimate the prevalence of metamorphopsia in different maculopathies and evaluate alternative methods to detect and quantify visual distortion.
