David  Aguilar

David Aguilar directs the Public Affairs and Educational Outreach Department at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. A naturalist, astronomer, world lecturer and astronomical artist, his work reflects his passion for bringing the wonders of science to audiences.  David is an award winning author and illustrator of seven National Geographic books including “PLANETS, STARS, AND GALAXIES: A Visual Encyclopedia of Our Universe, “11 PLANETS”, “SUPER STARS”, “13 PLANETS”, “ SPACE ENCYCLOPEDIA”, the “Kid’s BIG BOOK of Space”, and “ALIEN WORLDS”.  David is the past director of the Fiske Planetarium and Science Center at the University of Colorado in Boulder, director of Marketing Communications at Ball Aerospace, marketing director for the PBS Emmy-winning NOVA series, “Evolution”, and writer/illustrator/narrator of “The UNIVERSE” TV program, “Alien Faces”. He is scholar and enrichment lecturer for Smithsonian Journeys and Harvard World Tours. In 2010, asteroid 1990DA was named after him in honor of his educational outreach efforts.
