Amy studies civic engagement and leadership development among Asian Americans, with a focus on Asian American youth experiences. 

Amy's qualifying paper is a study of Asian American youth from a city in metro Boston, and their meaning-making of their civic participation.  Her New Civics Internship is with the Chinese New Civics Project, led by Professors Helen Haste and Robert Selman, in collaboration with researchers from East China Normal University.  As part of this project, she is conducting discursive analyses of how youth in contemporary China construct their sense of civic agency.  Other interests include immigration issues, community development and youth in diasporic communities.  Prior to her time at HGSE, the bulk of her professional career was working in Boston’s Chinatown, where she managed, designed, and developed community programs ranging from an Asian American youth radio show to homebuyer education for Chinese immigrants to a temporary community library.  She received her B.A. in Sociology from Amherst College, and an M. Ed. in International Educational Development from Boston University.
