Thanks to the generous support for Harvard's long term preservation initiative by the Arcadia Fund, the first official release of FITS with video support using the MediaInfo tool is now available. FITS now includes MediaInfo output in standard FITS XML, and also optionally creates standards based metadata output based on the EBUCore technical metadata schema.

Video file formats now supported by FITS, for both format identification and metadata extraction, are: avi, mov, mpg, mpeg, mkv, mp4, mxf, ogv, mj2, divx, dv, m4v, m2v, ism.

The FITS MediaInfo tool has been tested and can be deployed on the following 64-bit OSes:

• Windows 7, or higher - 64-bit (tested with Windows 7)
• Mac OS X - 64-bit
• Red Hat 6.x - 64-bit

These come preconfigured for MediaInfo release 0.7.75.

A 64-bit JVM (JDK or JRE) is required.
