What we study:

My research explores the interaction of organisms with the fluid environment, the evolution of the physiological and biomechanical control systems of organisms in the fluid environment, and modeling of organismal control systems using biologically-inspired robotics. The fluid environment is highly dynamic, exhibiting physical changes both instantaneously and on geologic time scales.  Variations in environmental complexity and fluid interactions result in the need for both immediate plasticity of control mechanisms and for long-term modifications (adaptations) of structure and physiology.
