Q: What is F.L.E.X.?
A: F.L.E.X., which stands for Fitness, Longevity, Energy, Xcitement, is a pilot program designed to help Harvard students meet the American College of Sports Medicine recommendations for physical activity. Please see About FLEX for more information.
Q: Who can participate in F.L.E.X.?
A: In this stage of the program, only students at one undergraduate house at Harvard are participating. Those students have been notified and will be participating from September 2013-May 2014. Going forward we hope to expand the program to other students and members of the Harvard community.
Q: I was invited to participate, but I don't usually workout. Is this just for people who are already regular exercisers?
A: No. The program is designed to help students of all activity and fitness levels learn to fit daily movement in their everyday lives. This is a flexible program that can be adapted as needed on an individual basis.
Q: Do I need any special equipment to participate?
A: Participants in the pilot program will receive an accelerometer, which will track steps and overall activity level. In-house programming will include workouts ranging from yoga to bootcamp style workouts so participants may wish to have athletic clothing and/or sneakers to increase comfort and safety. No other equipment is required.
Q: Are there any incentives for participating?
A: Yes! Beyond the benefits you'll see to your health, energy, sleep, and mood, participants will earn points based on their activity level that can be redeemed for prizes.
Q: What are the prizes?
A: We're still working on this, but we will update once we have confirmation.
Q: I am a funder and I would like to contribute to the expansion of this initiative. Who should I contact?
A: Please contact Jeanne Mahon, Director of the Center for Wellness. Her contact information can be found on the People page.
Q: I still have questions! Who should I contact?
A: Email Becki, the Coordinator of Student Support and Programming for F.L.E.X. Her contact information can be found on the People page.
