The Harvard Library recently posted a story about our project "Harvard Library Explorer Debuts at Cabot." Thanks to Peter Kosewski and Kira Poplowski for the nice story. We are also asking librarians across Harvard to help us with testing a promising software called IntuiFace for the Surface, also mentioned in the story.
A total of 29 user usability tests were just completed on the Cabot Library surface table under the direction of Dr. Rong Tang, Director of the Simmons GSLIS Usability Lab. Congratulations to Mike Corbett, Xin He and Lindsey Danis for a job well done. Special thanks to Michael Leach for managing to organize the student particpants on such short notice. The sessions included 24 undergraduate and 5 nonundergraduate and focused primarily on the Library Explorer application. Members of the Harvard Library UX will be meeting with Rong to review options for data analysis and reports.
Thanks again to our colleagues at Brown, especially Alex and Maxwell, the Library Explorer software is now available for download at http://lads.codeplex.com/releases/view/86164. The source is available as well to those that are adventurous. If you plan to use the software, please let us know!
Here's Dr Dave's story about the origins of the name NUIverse: "One of my colleagues came up with the name 'NUIverse', and since a major motivation behind creating this app was the opportunity to explore the use of Natural User Interface (NUI), and the name is a nice play on the spelling of 'Universe' the name has stuck". We have a wonderful team from Simmons helping us with conducting usability tests of the SUR40 and Library Explorer. This weekend was a mad rush to ensure that everything was in order before interviewing over 30 student participants. The interviews occur within the Cabot Library space, which has gotten the attention of many students so far.
Chris Erdmann, Head Librarian of Wolbach Library and Dan Gregson of HUIT spent the day working with developers from the Brown Graphics Group on last minute updates to the Library Explorer software. Usability testing begins this Saturday.
Reed Lowrie and Michael Leach at Cabot test out IntuiFace Presentation, a new surface table app designed by IntuiLab. Headquartered in Toulouse, France with offices in Boston, London and Paris, IntuiLab specializes in interactive applications.
