The centerpiece of the Research Experience for Undergraduates Program at HDSL is a bi-weekly lab practicum with the lab's executive director and postdoctoral fellow. The first half-hour of the meeting engages them in a meeting with the entire lab staff, to review recent and upcoming issues in the lab. The following hour is devoted to the topic of the day. Topics are designed to impart particular research skills --- e.g., how to design experiments, how to score and analyze physiological data, and how to program experiments using computer software. Practicums also provide an opportunity for our students to have conversations with various investigators, learning more about their research and their career trajectories.
REU scholars must complete the University's basic research ethics training program. As part of their CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) training, they are required to complete the "Undergraduate Students" and "Social and Behavioral Investigators, Basic Course" modules.
