Description"Mechanisms of DNA repair in S phase" Johannes Walter, Ph.D. HHMI Professor of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology Harvard Medical School https://walter.hms.harvard.edu/ Abstract: Our genomes are under constant attack from endogenous and exogenous sources of DNA damage. Some of the most toxic DNA lesions known (inter-strand cross-links, DNA protein cross-links) are only sensed and repaired after collision with a DNA replication fork. We are using Xenopus egg extracts to elucidate the mechanisms of these replication-coupled repair processes. The work is uncovering new repair functions for the Fanconi anemia and BRCA tumor suppressor pathways.
