The Standing Committee on Medieval Studies is pleased to announce its forthcoming Undergraduate Symposium in Premodern Studies, which will take place on Friday, 19 April in the Barker Center's Thompson Room. This event is co-sponsored by the Committee on Degrees in History & Literature, the Department of Classics, Early Modern World at Harvard, and the Ancient Studies Program. Contributions are welcome from Harvard College students of papers (fifteen to twenty minutes in length) in any discipline, dealing with any topic in ancient, medieval, and early modern studies. Medieval Studies professor named visiting professor at National Gallery of Art

Jeffrey Hamburger, Kuno Francke Professor of German Art and Culture, will serve as the Kress-Beinecke Professor at the National Gallery of Art's Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts during the 2019–2020 academic year. During his tenure, Hamburger will work on his forthcoming (2021) Panizzi Lectures for the British Library, as well as on Imperial Splendor, an exhibition of manuscript illumination in the Holy Roman Empire from the reign of Charlemagne to that of Emperor Maximilian I scheduled to open at the Pierpont Morgan Library and Museum in 2021.

Harvard University medievalist Panagiotis Roilos, George Seferis Professor of Modern Greek Studies and Professor of Comparative Literature, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens. Professor Roilos, a scholar of Byzantine Greek literature and literary theory, is one of the youngest honorees in the century-old history of Panteion University, a leading center for the study of social and political sciences in Europe. Coolidge Undergraduate Thesis Prize (due Friday, 7 April 2017) and the Committee on Medieval Studies Undergraduate Essay Prize (due Friday, 28 April 2017).
