Claire Jo is a doctoral candidate in Human Development and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is recipient of a Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship at Harvard University. She received her Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) in linguistics and art history at the University of Sydney where she was the winner of the University’s Academic Prize. She completed her Master’s in applied linguistics at Seoul National University and Master’s in Language and Literacy at HGSE. Before coming to Harvard, she was a lecturer of academic reading and writing at the Seoul National University Language Education Institute. Her main areas of academic interest are bilingualism, second language acquisition, and academic writing development. Her current research with EF Education First focuses on exploring first language effects on adolescent English learners’ academic writing development.
