Minimalist Framework Ontology, Archi (Nakh-Daghestanian): Polinsky Language Sciences Lab

Faculty Member: Maria Polinsky

The Polinsky Language Sciences Lab is a linguistics lab that examines questions of language structure and its effect on the ways in which people use and process language in real time. The Polinsky Lab is looking for a student who is interested in representing aspects of the Minimalist framework as an online ontology, in application to agreement phenomena in Archi (Nakh-Daghestanian). The ontology will be linked others representing different frameworks (Typology, HPSG, LFG). It will also link to resources available on the web, such as sound files of Archi words. The current ontologies can be seen at http://www.york.ac.uk/res/archibrowser/. The student will be expected to edit the Minimalist ontology using Protege, in consultation with Prof Polinsky and Prof D. Brown (York). There is a Bitbucket repository in place for the development of the ontology. The project will be conducted through May 2014.
