Humphrey Burton

Humphrey Burton was BBC Television’s first Head of Music and Arts and a founding member of London Weekend Television. In the 1970s, he developed a second career as a film and television director for Leonard Bernstein’s many musical projects, including documentaries, rehearsals, and over 150 filmed concerts with the Vienna Philharmonic and other orchestras. He is the author of biographies of Leonard Bernstein and Yehudi Menuhin.

Throughout this October 13, 2006 interview, Burton documents his long-time collaboration with Leonard Bernstein. He discusses the films he made of Bernstein; he also shares his experiences interviewing Bernstein and, after Bernstein’s death, writing his biography.
