Jonathan Sarna

Dr. Jonathan Sarna, Joseph H. and Belle R. Braun Professor of American Jewish History at Brandeis University, visited the Bernstein seminar on February 14, 2006.  He is an editor of The Jews of Boston (1995), and author of American Judaism: A History (2004), among many publications. In this lecture and discussion he shares a rich understanding of Boston's Jewish community and its history.  He also situates the Bernstein family within this history, exploring its implications for Leonard Bernstein’s life and career and prompting further questions and discussion on topics that include the relationship between various Jewish immigrant groups, the Zionist movement in Boston, and Harvard University's quota system of admissions.
