Hours & Location

 

Hours:

The Lab Help Desk is normally staffed during the following hours:

  • Monday through Thursday, 8 AM to 9 PM
  • Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM
  • Saturday and Sunday, Noon to 5 PM

During Harvard holidays and transitions between semesters, the Lab Help Desk may or may not be staffed during normal hours. Changes in hours will be posted at the lab help desk.

The only specific dates on which the Lab Help Desk is closed are Thanksgiving in November and the Harvard Holiday Break in December.

For support after hours, please contact us with as much information about your issue as possible. Please note that we may not get back to you until the next business day.

The IQSS Computer Lab Help-Desk is located on the Concourse level of the Harvard CGIS-Knafel building. Our address is:

Once you enter the buiding you will need to take the stairs or elevator down to the Concourse level. Once there we can be found in the right hand door as shown in this picture:

Assistance

The Lab Help Desk assistants will help you with various lab issues, such as account creation, HarvardKey, how to add print credit, item checkout, and general computer assistance. Lab Help Desk Assistants are not IT professionals, but will make a best effort towards solving any lab software or hardware issue brought to their attention.

Item Checkout

Our labs have several resources available for lab users.

Books

The Lab Help Desk has a small library of statistical methods and software manuals available for check out. These books are meant to be used in CGIS only, and should be returned at the end of each day.

Headphones

The Lab Help Desk has over ear headphones for check out. You must leave an ID with the Help Desk while borrowing headphones and should be returned at the end of each day.

Computer Peripherals

There are external drives, cameras, and other computer peripherals available for checkout at the Lab Help Desk for lab usage only. You must leave an valid Harvard or Governmental ID (Sorry, no library cards) with the Help Desk while borrowing a peripheral and should be returned at the end of each day.

Printing, Printers & Scanners

Printing in our computer labs is available for valid FAS account holders via Papercut. Printing costs are:

  • 5 cents per black-and-white page
  • 25 cents per color page

All printing is prepaid via Crimson Cash, personal check ($10.00 minimum), or departmental billing code.

Our Lab Help Desk has a variety of specialty papers (colors and sizes) that are available at no additional charge. Laser printer overhead transparency sheets are available for an additional charge.

Copy machines are not located in the our public labs; however, CGIS Building Operations maintains a copier outside the Concourse Computer Lab.
