This player uses a modified phonetic alphabet (found in some textbooks), with some characters different from the standard IPA, so that č, for example, is used for the initial sound of "cheese." Here are the equivalents you will need to know, with the IPA symbols to the right: č = tʃ, ǰ = dʒ, š = ʃ, and [ə] can also be used for [ʌ] as in "nut."
