“Global urban land dynamics monitoring”, Dr. Peng Gong, University of Hong Kong
Chair: Cuizhen Wang, University of South Carolina
Meeting Number: 187 772 9435
Peng Gong is Chair Professor of Global Sustainability at the University of Hong Kong. His major research interests include mapping, monitoring and modeling of global environmental change, and modelling of environmentally related infectious diseases such as schistosomiasis, avian influenza, dengue and COVID-19, and healthy and sustainable cities. He is the author/co-author of over 600 articles and 8 books. He chaired/co-chaired 8 Lancet Commission reports on climate change and health, and healthy cities in China.
Over the past three decades, a lot of efforts have been made to map and monitor urban land changes using remotely sensed data. However, most of the studies have concentrated on a single city or a cluster of cities. It is not until recently that global mapping and monitoring of cities have come into being. In this talk I shall present a trajectory of urban mapping and change analysis mainly based on works conducted in my research, and then discuss some possible future perspectives in monitoring the world's cities.
