Chris Winkler has been a lecturer at Hokkaido University's Modern Japanese Studies Program (MJSP) since 2015. Previously, he was senior research fellow at the German Institute for Japanese Studies (DIJ) in Tokyo (2010-2015) as well as visiting scholar at Chuo University (2010). He received his PhD from the University of Munich in 2009. His main research interests are ideologies and their manifestations, among them the debate about an amendment of the 1946 Constitution, in postwar Japan. His research has appeared in the Journal of Japanese Studies, Social Science Japan Journal, Journal of East Asian Studies and Japan Forum. He is the author of the Quest for Japan's New Constitution (Routledge, 2010).
