Janet McDougall is a Senior Data Archivist with the Australian Data Archive (ADA), at the Australian National University (ANU). Her background includes mainframes IT, data management, GIS, and social research (ANU MSR Adv). Janet specialises in the archival workflow and sensitive data - curation, preservation, technical implementation, controlled vocabularies, and metadata standards.

Janet has worked closely with qualitative researchers to develop curation workflows to share data for reuse, and provided technical liaison and solutions for the Return, Reconcile, Renew Project for the return of Ancestral Remains to be brought back to country. She is currently working on multiple projects through the ANU First Nations Portfolio: providing data management and archival direction for an Aboriginal land council; implementing a Mukurtu CMS for their cultural preservations group; and providing metadata focussed support for the Indigenous Data Initiative in its aim to provide a clearer understanding of the ANU Indigenous data landscape. Further interests also include linked data support for shared vocabularies and standards, and the use of linked open data and the semantic web for data sharing.
