Of all the challenges that come with living off campus, my roommates and I might say that living without HUDS is the greatest. Cooking has become its own extracurricular--upwards of an hour is invested in kitchen time each night, jamming out to tunes and attempting favorite recipes from home. Because of the time I get to spend having fun with roommates, cooking is an off-campus ritual I've come to love. Yet cooking can be enjoyed anywhere, and I'm also particularly grateful for the views from my home this semester. Costa Rican sunsets are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen, especially over the water. Making food for others has been a highlight of off-campus living broadly, and watching the sun set from my balcony everyday is another ritual I'm very happy to have adopted. Dusk is a time to reflect and relax--a distinctly introspective practice compared to the social joy of cooking. I'm far from a talented baker, but I wanted to capture the magic of making food and the tropics all in one shot with my submission. Sunsets and cookies have given me great joy this semester!
