White Coat Display

Saturday, July 22, 2017 (All day) to Sunday, July 23, 2017 (All day)

Union Square, New York
Violence against healthcare workers is often used as a weapon of war in conflict zones. Over 700 physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals have been killed due to the conflict in Syria.

The Physicians for Human Rights Student Advisory Board is drawing attention to this issue through an art project in collaboration with NY area artist Rosary Solimanto (https://rosarysolimanto.com/) by collecting 700 white coats from graduating medical students and displaying them prominently in NYC.

The weekend-long white coat display will be located in Union Square (NYC) from July 22-23 and used to stimulate conversation and learning about the violations of medical neutrality in Syria, where over 800 healthcare providers have been killed since the start of the conflict. It will also be linked to a fundraising campaign for the Syrian-American Medical Society Foundation, which provides medical care on the front lines in Syria.

The HMS PHR chapter has collected 30 coats for the fund so far.
