Global Shapers Ekaterinburg

The project "Clean Planet" initiated by the Yekaterinburg hub of Global Shapers Community in accordance with World Economic Forum concept of the hard industrial revolution.

Annual Summit of Global Shapers held in 2018 at the WEF headquarters in Geneva showed that the most relevant direction in international youth activism is the environment. At the same time, technologies related to "green energy" and "waste recycling" are of the greatest interest .

Yekaterinburg, as the capital of the Urals and one of the largest cities in Russia, needs the infrastructure for the collection and recycling of waste into secondary raw materials. Today we can say that "junk collapse” of Yekaterinburg does not concern. The study of this topic has shown that, of course, there are minor problems associated with the disposal of waste in unsuitable places for this city. This is most likely due to the unfair entrepreneurial activity of individuals. In general, local residents are determined to maintain order in the city with their own efforts through a manifestation of consciousness that environmental pollution with various types of household waste is the path to an ecological disaster.

At the same time, the problem of the lack of information remains:

- how to sort waste;

- places for  collection of garbage of various types;

- ways of recycling;

- about detrimental effect on environment and the consequences of improper disposal.

This project has Recycle map. Opportunities for improvement:

- timely updates of information on the locations of garbage collection;

- time points for garbage collection, which appear on the initiative of business entities not specialising in garbage collection and recycling, but initiating such a collection for charitable purposes or as environmental actions, are not taken into account;

-  timely updates of information that educate citizens about the types of garbage and the rules for disposal.

The project "Clean Planet" Yekaterinburg hub of Global Shapers Community intends to realise opportunities to improve city’s waste disposal. An important advantage of Hub activity is that Hub activist  work on city level. This scale will allow an efficient information exchange within the project.

The Clean Planet also has prospects for impact on the international level. Global Shapers Community network of 391 hubs in 157 countries can help to share experience with others.
