Dr Hemangi Kadlak is from India. She works as an Assistant Professor (Visiting Faculty) at the School of Social Sciences and Languages (SSL) of Vellore Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India. Before that, she worked at the Department of Social Work, SNDT University, Churchgate, Mumbai. She did her PhD at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. She also holds an MPhil degree in Social Work from Bishop Heber College, Bharatidasan University, Tiruchirappalli. She did a Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune. She has honours in Sociology in B.A. from Mumbai University. After her MSW, she worked at different NGOs. She worked as a visiting faculty at Amity University, Mumbai and SNDT University, Santa Cruz, Mumbai, etc.

She presented research papers at different conferences conducted in India and abroad. She has widely published sanitation community issues, the youth of sanitation workers, and their education in several reputed journals and edited books both nationally and internationally. One of her papers on women sanitation workers has been kept for study at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. She was selected for a student exchange program at Keel University, the UK, in 2013. She was also selected for International Study Tour to Columbia University, USA by Dr Ambedkar Foundation, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on the 125 birth anniversary in 2015. She visited as an Independent Research Scholar to the Global Centre for Global Development and Sustainability (GDS) at Brandeis University, USA in 2016.

She reviewed papers for journals of SAGE Publication and presently works as a reviewer at BMJ Global Health Journal from 19 March 2022. She is an advisory Committee Member for the project “Global advocacy for health, safety and dignity of workers in sanitation” initiated by the SNV, WaterAid, ILO, WHO and World Bank from February 2021. She has worked as a Principal Investigator for the summer 2021 semester research fellowship at International Socioeconomics Laboratory Board, USA from 30 May 2021 to 25 August 2021 and continued the same for this year as well. She chairs the sessions at different colleges in the conferences. She also engages herself in academic lectures at different colleges and public talks. She is honoured to receive some awards as well. Her main areas of interest include gender, education, intergenerational mobility, the interrelationship between caste and occupation, and the impact of parent work on their children.
