Bretton Woods  Hi-Cannon Trail steep sections with interesting ladders.

It’s the end of the hiking season and the beginning of the snowboarding season. On November 13 I strapped on my snowboard at Bretton Woods for the first time (left). On November 19 Peter Wyatt and I did a last hurrah up Cannon Mountain by the Hi-Cannon Trail and returning by the Lonesome Lake Trail. The Hi-Cannon Trail has some steep sections with interesting ladders (right).

Pemigewasset Valley  Franconia Ridge.

This is a good time of year to do Cannon because the tourist gondola to the top of the mountain is closed. And so we had the summit tower to ourselves. Great views down the Pemigewasset Valley (left) and across the valley to the Franconia Ridge (right).

Lonesome Lake Trail.  Franconia Ridge

From there we went down the Lonesome Lake Trail, with a side loop around the lake. The trail around the lake is a real pleasure – most of it is bog bridges, so it’s really easy walking, and the views of the lake are great, including reflections of the Franconia Ridge (right).
