Crawford Notch.    Stairs and the Presidentials.

Crawford, Resolution, and Stairs is one of my favorite fall hikes. The mountains are relatively low so the fall colors are vivid. Mt. Crawford is very popular (for good reasons) but Resolution and Stairs leave the crowds behind. This time we did it in the spring for some very different colors. Up the Davis Path to Mt. Crawford for fantastic views to Crawford Notch (left), Stairs and the Presidentials (right), and to the south (below left). The lime-green color of the newly leafed birches stood in stark contrast to the dark green of the conifers. The wind was howling.

View to the South.    Resolution great ledges an iconic square rock at the top.

We went back to the Davis Path and took the detour to Resolution, which has great ledges, an iconic square rock at the top (right), and fantastic views to the south (below left). This is one of my favorite mountains. We have never figured out the exact top because the area near the top is so flat. We wandered around again this time but no success.

Views to the south.    Stairs.

From there it was back on the Davis Path, dropping into Stairs Col at 3,100 feet which still had some snow and bare trees, and on to Stairs, which is a steep climb to 3.400 feet with some scrambles, a bit of snow at the top, and again great views (right).
