Solidarity with Solidarity: Western European Trade Unions and the Polish Crisis, 1980–1982

The fourteenth book, Solidarity with Solidarity: Western European Trade Unions and the Polish Crisis, 1980-1982 edited by Idesbald Goddeeris, brings together essays exploring how trade unions in ten West European countries reacted to the formation and later suppression of Solidarity in Poland.  Some of the unions ardently welcome Solidarity and offered as much support as possible, whereas others (especially those affiliated with Communist parties in Italy, France, and Spain) were much more ambivalent and in certain cases even hostile.  The book complements the literature that has appeared on the crucial role of the AFL-CIO in supporting Solidarity both during and after the 1980-1981 crisis in Poland.
