The Soviet Union and the Horn of Africa during the Cold War: Between Ideology and Pragmatism

The twenty-sixth book, The Soviet Union and the Horn of Africa during the Cold War: Between Ideology and Pragmatism by Radoslav A. Yordanov, discusses the domestic and external dimensions of Soviet policy toward Ethiopia and Somalia.  The Horn of Africa became a proxy battleground for the Soviet Union and the United States in the latter half of the 1970s and a severe irritant in East-West relations.  Drawing on declassified Soviet and Western archival documents, Yordanov analyzes the Soviet foreign policymaking process and explains the ideological, military and economic factors that spurred the Soviet Union to become extensively involved in the Horn.
