In 2014, Inês Laíns was awarded with the Junior Grant and Career Development Award of the HMS Portugal Program that gave her the opportunity to come to the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI/HMS). Under the mentorship of Dr. Joan W. Miller and Dr. Deeba Husain, she is primarily working on age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and on imaging of retinal and choroidal diseases. Her current main project is a multi-site study on biomarkers of AMD.
