Weiwei Wang, PhD
Gene Therapy Research
Vandenberghe Lab / Ocular Genomics Institute
Weiwei Wang earned her PhD in Physiology and Pharmacology from Rutgers University where she studied injury induced synaptic plasticity and cytoskeleton dynamics in photoreceptor cells. Her interest in synaptic remodeling led her to her first postdoc position in UCSF to study dendritic remodeling after photoreceptor ablation.
In 2017 Weiwei joined Grousbeck Gene Therapy Center (Vandenberghe Lab), Ocular Genomics Institute. She is investigating Usher syndrome with a focus on ciliopathy, to develop in vitro model for high throughput screening of therapeutic gene transfer. Ultimately, Weiwei aims to build methodology to overcome size limitation of AAV for gene augmentation therapy.
