The Mixed-Income Neighborhoods Project

Chicago and Los Angeles are home to two of the largest social science initiatives in the last 20 years—the “Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods” (PHDCN) and the “Los Angeles Family and Neighborhood Study” (LAFANS).   Funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the current project follows up these unique studies to provide a multilevel, dynamic look at the sources and consequences of contemporary mixed-income housing in these two cities.   Robert J. Sampson and Robert D. Mare are the principal investigators.  For a description of the “Mixed Income Neighborhoods Project (MINP), see the “About” page.
