About

The NAHSP is an immersive educational experience which gives students the opportunity to explore topics in healthcare, neuroscience, substance abuse and addiction, medicine, and many others.  Additionally, the program includes workshops on the college preparation and application process.  Program participants work with graduate student mentors to craft drafts of their college application essays. and work together with their peers in groups throughout the program to craft meaningful final projects, rooted in the science curriculum, that speak to the idea of becoming an agent of positive change in one's home community.

Selected students from Hopi (Arizona) and Fort Peck (Montana) travel as a group with their peers and accompanying chaperones form the communities to Boston.  Students and chaperones are housed together in the dorms at Simmons College, a gated and scenic campus a few minutes walk from the Harvard Medical School campus.  All travel expenses, room and board, and program activities, are covered by the Progarm.  Students also receive a small weekly stipend.

In addition to college-style classroom experiences, students will have the opportunity to participate in many exciting hands-on and innovative activities, such as a a cooking in science workshop and emergency room patient simulators.  Every day is packed full of educational experiences both inside and outside the classroom!
