JFK Presidential Library and Museum Archives Tour

Date:

Thursday, December 11, 2014, 10:00am to 12:00pm

Location:

JFK Presidential Library and Museum

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum holds over 400 archival collections of JFK, his administration, his family – and Ernest Hemingway! Around 2006, they began a tremendous initiative called “Access to a Legacy,” to digitize, catalogue, and preserve many of their collections. Since then, they have received a lot of notoriety for this massive project – covering textual, photograph, and audiovisual assets - that is still ongoing. On the tour, we will see their facilities - with focus on the digital collections areas - and have the opportunity to speak with some of their digital initiative archivists about the parameters and technical specifications of their work. Depending on the length of the tour, there may be time to check out their really cool museum as well!

To get to the JFK Museum via public transportation, take the Red line to the JFK/UMass stop. From there, a JFK-specific shuttle runs every 20 minutes. Those who can attend (no more than 10-12, preferably), should meet in the lobby of the building by 10:00 am.
