Here are some suggestions for fun activities that are happening around Ithaca this summer.


Friday July 1st at Myers Park in Lansing. BBQ and band 'Bad Alibi' starting at 6 pm, fireworks at dark.

Saturday July 2nd, 9:30 pm in Taughannock Park

Sunday July 3rd, 9:45 pm in Stewart Park. Free TCAT bus service.

Ithaca Shakespeare Company

Productions are outside in Treman Marine Park.

Twelfth Night: July 7, 10, 14, 16, 22, 24 at 6 pm.

Henry VI: July 8, 9, 15, 17, 21, 23 at 6 pm.

Tickets are $25 for reserved seats and $15 for general admission. There is a 20% off discount for students (enter code STUDENT at checkout).

Plays at the Hangar Theatre

In the Heights is playing June 30 - July 16

Third is playing July 21-30

There are also some productions for kids: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe July 7-9, and Louis Braille: The World at Your Fingertips July 14-16.

Cinema Under the Stars at Cornell Cinema

Wednesdays on the Willard Straight Center Terrace. Doors at 8:15 pm, film at 9:30 pm. Tickets are $13.

Friday Concerts at Cornell

Free concerts in the Arts Quad at 7 pm.

Tuesday Concerts at Cornell

Free concerts in Klarman Hall at 7:30 pm

Ithaca Commons Thursday Concerts

Outdoors, 6-8pm

Taughannock State Park Saturday Concerts

7 pm outdoors (pay $5 per vehicle for parking)


Boating/kayaking/paddleboarding, at either Myer's Point or Taughannock Park Paddle-N-More or at Puddledockers (near Greenstar).

Puddledockers takes reservations. Paddle-N-More is strictly first come first serve. Usually Puddledockers is easy to get to by bus, but note there is no TCAT bus service on July 4.

Horseback Riding
Painted Bar Stables in Burdett is by appointment only for trail rides and requires closed-toe shoes, etc. See the website for details. The stable is close to Watkins Glen, with its state park. 

Bikes can be rented at the Youth Bureau (call 607-273-8364 x 157) near Stewart Park or the Outdoor Store (607-273-3891) on the Commons.


Corning Glass Museum

About an hour from Ithaca by car. 

Paleontological Research Institute

Accessible by TCAT bus route 14.

The Ithaca Science center

Lots of fun for kids!

The Cornell Plantations

Beautiful gardens and an arboretum. They offer some free guided walks.

Cornell Lab of Ornithology

Self-guided trails as well as free tours of trails and the building. Binoculars, and field guides may be borrowed for free between 10am and 4pm.

TCAT Bus Service

Most helpful sections are “popular destinations” and “all routes” in section RIDE.

There is some TCAT service on Saturdays and Sundays from downtown to Taughannock, Buttermilk and Treman State Parks.

There is no bus service on July 4.
