In the spirit of a “Know Your Rights” workshop, we invite all first-gen college and first-gen immigrant students to attend this interactive “Know Your Strengths” workshop to discover the many forms of capital that we bring into spaces of higher learning. Student participants will be introduced to the work of critical race and Latinx critical theorist, Tara Yosso, who is a first-gen college alum, Professor of Education, and author of the Community Cultural Wealth Model. By reflecting on the knowledge students of color bring with them from their homes and communities into the classroom, we will help students identify the forms of capital most salient to their experience as college and immigrant trailblazers.

Led by Diana Ortiz Giron, Assistant Director for Diversity Education & Support in the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations, and Ariana Aparicio, Research Assistant at the Immigration Initiative at Harvard. Both first-gen Latina professionals committed to serving and mentoring undocumented and FGLI students!
