Welcome to the companion website for the upcoming Nonviolence Organizing in Theory and Practice: Building the Beloved Community and Effective Social Justice Movements Exploratory Seminar.  We are very excited for this virtual seminar, on March 24-25, 2022, and we look forward to seeing everyone soon.  Please feel free to explore this website.  We will strive to make sure that the most up-to-date information is installed.  Thank you.

Executive Summary: We need more people who understand the methods and philosophy of nonviolent struggle that have been so effective. In this exploratory seminar, to be held virtually on March 24-25, 2022, we will bring together about 20 people who are actively involved with educating and organizing for social and economic justice for all.

  • We will draw upon the models of social change and the theories and practices of nonviolence from Gandhi to Martin Luther King, Jr., James Lawson, and others.
  • We will read the short new book, Revolutionary Nonviolence, and see the short film, “Love and Solidarity,” designed to acquaint people with Lawson’s four step methodology and the radical philosophy that has made him an important advocate not only for civil rights, but labor and immigrant rights, peace, and social justice.
  • We will discuss how to expand networks of educators and activists to help create a roadmap at this critical juncture, especially for young social movement activists, many of whom may not know of the tactics and strategies of nonviolent direct action and the larger philosophy that in the past produced so many movement victories.

The seminar website is under construction and will be available for our use afterwards supported by the Radcliffe Institute at Harvard University. We invite contributions to the website and ideas about how to create the most generative exchange of ideas and networks possible. For more details, see the website.
