Resources

This page includes tools and resources for understanding, implementing, and scoring the original RRSM, which was developed in the United States for use in early childhood classroom contexts.  For adaptations and translations of the RRSM submitted by external users, please see our Adaptations of the RRSM page.

  • RRSM User Guide - A comprehensive manual including information on the background and development of the RRSM, as well as guidelines for data collection and coding.

  • RRSM Observation & Scoring Guide - Detailed guidelines for coding each of the 16 RRSM Items. This information can also be found in the RRSM User Guide (Appendix A), but has been included here independently for your convenience. Please reference these guidelines frequently while coding the RRSM!

  • RRSM Contextual Checklist - A tool that may be used to record the type and content of activities occuring in the classroom during RRSM coding. (This information is also included in Appendices C and D in the RRSM User Guide.)

  • RRSM Score Sheet and RRSM Coding Workbook - The RRSM developers have created a score sheet that may be used during RRSM coding (also available as Appendix B in the RRSM User Guide). An excel spreadsheet may also be used during coding, if preferable. Samples of each are available for download below.

  • RRSM Overview - A general overview of the RRSM.

  • RRSM Teacher Tool - A brief tool for teachers explaining the RRSM and outlining evidence-based strategies for promoting RRS in early childhood classroom settings.
