Dr. Betul Kacar, faculty speaker, Scientific Excellence Through Diversity Seminar Series

SACNAS@Harvard welcomes you to join us in a discussion, led by Dr. Betül Kacar, on the importance of diversity in scientific excellence. Betül received her PhD in Biomolecular Chemistry from Emory University. As a NASA Postdoctoral Fellow, she developed methods for paleo-experimental evolution to reconstruct and express 500million year old genes. In addition to her current position at Harvard, she is an Assistant Professor at ELSI Tokyo Institute.

Her work has been featured in NOVA Science, BBC Focus, New Scientist, WGBH, MIT Technology Review, SETI Institute, Astrobiology Magazine, Wired, Popular Science, PBS, iO9, CNN Turk, Quanta Magazine.

Betül is dedicated to science education, outreach, and communication. In 2012, she founded SAGAnet, an online STEM Mentorship and Education Network. She was named "Way Cool Scientist" by Science Club for Girls in 2016.
