Factors Influencing College Success in STEM

Upon entering college, many students initially intending to go into STEM fields are discouraged or deflected from this career path because they have difficulties in their introductory college STEM courses. How to improve students' preparation for college-level STEM has been a major focus of research at SED.

In an ongoing series of large-scale empirical research projects, we have investigated the factors that help beginning college students succeed in introductory STEM classes. These are national survey studies, each involving several thousand students at colleges and universities across the United States.
