Haniya graduated with an M.A. in Applied Psychology from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Her thesis, which systemically explored the experiences of Hijabi Muslim women in India, sparked her interest in studying identities and prejudice. After attaining her post-graduate degree, she worked both as a Research Assistant and Program Manager for a study funded by the International Growth Centre, UK. She is an aspiring Social Psychologist, and hopes to investigate how occupying multiply stigmatized positions influences perception and response to prejudice. She would also like to explore if intersectional identities can be leveraged to form intergroup alliances. Ultimately, Haniya would like her research to help people get along a little better.
