About the Radcliffe Institute

The Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University is dedicated to creating and sharing transformative ideas across the arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences.

Academic Ventures, a program at the Radcliffe Institute, brings together faculty members throughout Harvard University to develop innovative academic programming across a wide range of disciplines. Workshops and seminars launch or expand new scholarly and research endeavors for faculty and students, while public conferences, symposia, and lectures provide opportunities to challenge assumptions, study timely issues of public policy, and explore emerging ideas.

Through the Fellowship Program, women and men at the forefront of the sciences, humanities, social sciences, arts, and professions—all of whom have exceptional promise and demonstrated accomplishments—convene at the Radcliffe Institute for a full year. On average, only 6 percent of applicants to this program are accepted. As fellows, they focus on individual projects and research while benefiting from a multidisciplinary community in the enriching University setting.

The Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America documents the experiences—and collects, houses, and preserves the historical record—of women of the past and present for the future. With more than 3,000 unique manuscript collections, 95,000 printed volumes, and approximately 100,000 photographs, as well as thousands of items of ephemera, the Schlesinger is the world’s leading archive of the history of individual women and women’s organizations. The library is open to the public.

By encouraging intellectual risk taking and exploring the connections between the world of ideas and the world itself, the Radcliffe Institute is a resource for students and faculty at the University—and for thinkers and leaders around the world.
