Back from South Afica

October 3, 2016

We're back from a wonderful trip to South Africa! Stephanie and Katrina spent 3 fossil-packed weeks studying and collecting data on synapsids from the Karoo Basin for our NSF funded project: evolution of the mammalian backbone. Collaborator Ken Angielczyk joined us for the second half of the trip and taught us all about dicynodonts. We met lots of wonderful scientists and saw some really amazing fossils! Following SA, Stephanie went to England to work with Tom Kemp, where she CT scanned his taxonomically important synapsid fossils in collaboration with Jason Head at the UMZC.
