The following printers are available for student use, either by using Student Computing pc's in the respective locations on campus, or directly from your own personal laptop:


HP Color Laserjet Multifunction 681 in Student Lounge area, TMEC 231c.   

HP Color Laserjet Multifunction 577 in Student Computing area TMEC 225.  (coming soon, replacing the HP B&W and the HP Color 5520 in TMEC 225)

HP Color Lasedrjet 5520 in Student Comuting area, TMEC 225.  (soon to be replaced by the HP MFP 577)

HP B&W Laserjet 600 in Student Computing area, TMEC 225.  (soon to be replaced by the HP MFP 577

HP B&W Laserjet 600 in HST (London) Society, TMEC 218.

HP B&W Laserjet 600 in Vanderbilt Hall room 302b.


Note that black and white printers are set to duplex (double-sided) printing by default, and color printer(s) are set to single-sided by default.

Personal Laptop Printer Setup

To setup your personal laptop to print to any of these devices, follow the instructions below and use the name of the device specified in the list above (for example, in the Address, IP, or Hostname fields where applicable.  You must be on the HMS Network to setup and print to these printers.  You can use ethernet (network wall jack) or HMS Private wireless.  You cannot print while using HMS Public wireless.


To configure Mac OSX to print to any of the Student Computing printers:

  1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences
  2. In Systems Preferences, click on Printers & Scanners in the second row
  3. Click the + to add a new printer.
    1. Select Add Printer or Scanner from the pull down menu
  4. Click on the icon for IP
  5. Enter the following values:
    1. Address: enter the name of the desired printer, such as  
    2. Protocol: select HP JetDirect Socket if available, or Line Printer Daemon - LPD
    3. Queue: leave blank 
    4. Name (optional): enter the name, such as, or a name of your choosing 
    5. Location (optional): enter desired location info, or leave blank
  6. Click Add
  7. If prompted, check the box to enable the Duplex Printing Unit
  8. Click OK



To configure Windows 10 to print to any of the Student Computing printers:

  1. In the task bar search field, enter Printers & Scanners.  Press Return
  2. Click Add a printer or scanner
  3. Click The printer I want isn't listed
  4. Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname
  5. Click Next
  6. In the Hostname field, enter the name of the desired printer, such as
  7. Click Next
  8. Select the printer driver
    1. In the left column, select HP.
    2. In the right column, scroll to select either the specific model, or HP Universal Printing PCL 6
  9. Click Next
  10. In the Printer name field, enter the name, such as, or a name of your choosing
  11. Click Next
  12. If prompted, select Do not share this printer
  13. Click Next
  14. Click Finish
