David Armitage

David Armitage is the Lloyd C. Blankfein Professor of History and Chair of the Department of History at Harvard University. He is also an Affiliated Faculty Member at Harvard Law School and an Honorary Professor of History at the University of Sydney. Among his publications on intellectual history and international history are The Ideological Origins of the British Empire (2000), The Declaration of Independence: A Global History (2007) and Foundations of Modern International Thought (2013). He is currently completing a history of ideas of civil war from ancient Rome to the present and he is also co-authoring The History Manifesto, a short book about long-range historical thinking, as well as editing John Locke’s colonial writings.
