MetaSat

Open Metadata to Support the Future of Space Exploration

MetaSat is open metadata that links together hardware, software, data, and people associated with satellite missions. The vocabulary includes unique concepts that describe spacecraft, missions operations, ground stations, and more.

MetaSat is curated by Daniel Chivvis, Wolbach's Metadata Research Fellow.

See the full MetaSat website for all the details.

External Support

In 2019 the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation awarded the Wolbach Library and the Libre Space Foundation (LSF) a grant to in part develop and implement MetaSat on LSF’s open satellite transmitter database, SatNOGs DB. LSF was the first to implement MetaSat, but our goal is to ensure that our approach is open, flexible, and as extensible as possible. You can read more about MetaSat and contribute to the project on GitLab.
