She works with National College for Teaching & Leadership-National Centre for School Leadership (supported by UK-India Educational Research Initiative) located in National University of Education Planning and Administration (NUEPA), New Delhi. Rashmi has over twenty years of experience in the field of education and development where she lead initiatives in the areas of School Leadership, Teaching and Learning, Curriculum and Textbooks development, Teacher Education, Girls’ Education and Women Empowerment. She played an active role in framing National Curriculum Framework (NCF) - 2005.

Before Joining School Leadership Development Program as Asst. Lead Operations Director, she led a case study for Centre for Civil Society (CCS), New Delhi on “Implementation of section 12 of Right to Education (RTE) Act in Indian Private Schools.  She was also with Azim Premji Foundation in the capacity of Program Lead, where she worked to create space for community lead educational initiatives and drove Education Policy Advocacy with focus on National Curriculum Framework-2005 and Right to Education act 2009.

As the State Program Director of Mahila Samakhya, [an autonomous body of Government of India, working for Girls Education and Women Empowerment] Rashmi led setting up thirty- three “Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas” (Girl Schools) in 16 districts of Uttar Pradesh where she successfully consolidated feminist energy of over one hundred thousand women in 15 thousand collectives as a critical precondition to support and sustain girl-education in rural areas.  She also demonstrated how to synergize with various programs of government such as Mid-Day Meal (MDM), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Panchayati Raj (elected village bodies) etc. to support adolescent girls education and empower women.

As Head, Field Programs, Apne Aap Women Worldwide [AAWW], New Delhi, she worked on pedagogy and teachers’ training for children who had experienced sexual violence and also explored livelihood options for and rehabilitation of prostituted women 

Apart from these, Rashmi has provided her services to different institutions/projects like Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Education for All Project - Uttar Pradesh, District Primary Education Program (DPEP) and Sarv Siksha Abhiyaan or SSA (National Flagship Program of Education) funded by World Bank and Government of India), in the capacity of consultant and State Co-coordinator.
