Ben Rose graduated Summa Cum Laude with his B.S. in Evolutionary Anthropology in May of 2022 at Rutgers University, and joined the Pan Lab as a PhD student in the fall of 2022. Interested in the evolution of kindness, his goal is to better understand the social and emotional minds of bonobos. He wishes to understand the difference between bonobos and chimpanzees in how/if they care about one another, by looking at behaviors such as empathetic concern and consolation. He is also interested in how bonobos behaviorally/psychologically achieve relatively peaceful intergroup encounters compared to chimpanzees.
