Vote to help Harvard Engineers Without Borders win $8000! Harvard EWB was recently selected for the Penetron Fall EWB Grant contest. Vote to help us bring clean water to Los Sanchez, Dominican Republic and continue to build more successful and sustainable engineering projects around the world!
Today, one of our mentors, Larry Bentley, was awarded with the 2014 EWB-USA Founder's Award. He is incredibly deserving of this prestigious honor, and we feel lucky to be under his tutelage. He has over 30 years of engineering experience and over 10 years of international development experience.
A travel team of six students and two professional mentors returned in late January from a successful implementation trip in the Dominican Republic! The community, EWB team, and a contracted local drill team collaborated to install a 160 ft. well with a submersible pump with automated electrical system for storage tank filling. They also laid several hundred feet of distribution piping. All initial tests indicate that the water is clean, and the well capacity is more than sufficient to sustain the community. Please consider giving to the community of Pinalito this holiday season. The Harvard chapter of Engineers Without Borders is working with the community to provide access to potable water. Community members currently collect water from a river that is heavily contaminated from pesticides and other toxins. We are fundraising for a water well and distribution system to be implemented this January.
