On May 3, 2006, Derrick Wang and Shira Brettman spoke with Lynn Chang about his experiences with Leonard Bernstein and his music. In particular, they discuss Chang's many performances of Bernstein's Piano Trio, an early piece, unpublished during Bernstein's lifetime, that Chang calls Bernstein's "unofficial Opus 1." During this discussion, Chang speculates about the origins of the Piano Trio and reminisces about his encounters with Bernstein during his own college years at Harvard in the early 1970s.
